A new ODOT-controlled traffic light ramp meter at the entrance ramp from Stringtown Road to I-71, will bicycle on when I-71 north is experiencing a heavy flow of traffic. It is anticipated the traffic light will be rarely activated.

When the ramp meter is active, drivers entering I-71 north are required to stop when the light is red and proceed to enter simply after the light turns light-green, assuasive but one vehicle from each lane to enter.

Ramp meters detect speed and occupancy of mainline lanes, allowing cars to enter the highway from the ramp at the appropriate times to promote the most efficient menses of traffic. Ramp metering is proven to reduce travel time and crashes.
